As a rule, I always root for the team that has the most white guys.

No matter which team won it would have been its first NCAA championship.

Frustrating game for Tech, just could never get over the hump, would play great defense, then give up an offensive rebound. Credit to Virginia, they just made a few more plays in the end.

And great assists from the officials. That slapped ball call was wrong. And nice for Virginia to get a dozen or so free throws in the last free minutes.
Not to mention officials made a bad call and virgina should not have won the playoff gsme

Bad calls went both ways.

I did not watch the final game, but the officials did definitely blow the end of the semifinal game! First, they missed the double dribble which should have given the ball back to Auburn. The UVA shooter WAS fouled, but calling a touch foul at that point in the game with s few seconds left allowed the refs to determine the outcome of the game. Of course, the UVA player had to make three pressure free throws and the Auburn player should have made the second shot of the one and one at the other end of the court, but, IMO, to allow the game to play out in the final seconds would have been the better course of action.

Feel bad for the red raiders. That 3 pt clutch shot with a second remaining at end of regulation to tie them was something. I thought they had it wrapped up and the shot deflated them. Best thing about the finals was neither of ohahas teams were playing.

Have been watching Virginia Basketball for 50 years. Never thought I’d see this. Surreal. Go Hoos!

I hate that thought. Not calling actual fouls in those situations also lets the refs decide the game and gives a huge advantage to the defense. Meaning you can foul away and it won’t get called because it is the end of the game. If you do not want called for a foul, don’t foul.

“That slapped ball call was wrong.”

That’s one that the refs got right, as the replay clearly shows. Also, look at the reaction of the Tech player as it went off his hand. He knew he touched it last. Now, the missed double dribble by Jerome in the semi-final game was a blown call.

“The UVA shooter WAS fouled, ...”

From middle school onward, players are taught not to foul the jump shooter. That lesson is rarely learned.

Thugs in training.

Interesting idea, I wonder what the eventual and subsequent "thug" rate of college basketball players is compared to the general black population is. I'll bet its far, far lower.

They are also taught not to jump AT the jump shooter but to go straight up. Had the Auburn player done that, no foul. I don't know if Guy would have hit the three-pointer or not - it was a good look. The replay clearly showed the ball was still in his hand when his lower body was being contacted which may have thrown the original shot off.

As the officiating expert for the network stated, that contact would be called at any other time in the game so it should be called right at the end too.

I hate the use of replay in this instance - mainly because in 50 years of playing and watching B-ball, 100% of the time that type of poke-away goes back to the offensive team. Easy call - no one complains. Plus the replay allows the refs to second guess possession based on a grazed pinky finger, but not analyse whether either of the two defenders grazed the ball-handler and committed a foul.
