I used to wonder how Hitler got people to kill for him.

This is exactly what Hitler and the Nazis propagandized regarding the communists in Weimar Germany. They formed the brownshirts to kick commie butt. I am sure that it was very satisfying for a brownshirt to bash a commie who advocated a godless totalitarian dictatorship for Germany. The German commies were really, really bad, and I imagine that many of the brownshirts saw themselves as defending the highest ideals of German civilization ... much like idiotic Antifa goons think they are defending everything good and just. Instead, in their lawless fight against monsters, these incipient Nazis became monsters themselves, and led Germany to barbarism and destruction.
The sentiment expressed by the narrator is of the same category of the lawless radicalism practiced by the Jacobins, Lenin, Mao, and Pol Pot as well as Hitler. It never ends well.
This is really a very evil sentiment that CBS is propagandizing.
Just as craven and destructive are civil authorities who tolerate violence when their political allies initiate it.

twenty years ago I took a class at the university where we studied the history of genocides with most of the course being about what happen in Germany because of it being the best documented case. The teacher who taught the class was of course very left leaning in his beliefs. in class I got into a argument with him because he did not see how it was possible to happen in the united states. I told him that the seed of genocide were being planted by extremists with in the political parties. I never mentioned the political party because back then most teachers and students avoided naming parties but I mentioned the talk of reparations by the black panthers. I mentioned the problems associated with continuing affirmative action. I also mentioned the lack of challenging foreign Arab students when they started spouting off anti Semitism within class room. I then pointed out the fact we had cases of genocide with in Rwanda and Cambodia. the Professor was unable to understand how all of this stuff tore at the underpinnings of America and could turn deadly because each generation pushes things looking to be more radical then the previous generation. the professor really thought that it was impossible to happen.
