The Dragnet episode where a toddler drowns in a tub is the episode I remember the most.

I liked all the “Dragnet” series. Also the movie which was funny.

Jack Webb was very conservative but was also a big government tight control type. In some of the early episodes he totally violates suspects rights.

In fairness a lot of the “suspect’s rights” you are likely referring to had not yet been invented by the Supreme Court back then.

I used to watch this all the time as a kid. I also got to see the original movie DRAGNET (1954). Not the horrid 1987 spoof film of the same name.

Was that episode where the parents were high on weed? I preferred Highway Patrol with Broderick “leave your blood at the blood bank, not on the highway, Crawford.

Highway Patrol, I always like looking at the cars from back then.

The Opening makes a great ring tone.

As an aside you never saw Broderick Crawford drive on the street, only in back-lots as he lost his license because of DWI.

I loved the old Dragnet episode from the 50s where the Baby Jesus statue from the Nativity scene at a church goes missing and he and his partner Frank have to find the culprit. It has a happy ending.

I saw an episode of Highway Patrol where the local hot rodding punk was smuggling drugs into town. Turns out his car was a Flathead Ford with a twin carb setup, one of the carbs was a dummy that he would hide bags of herion in.

From looking at youtube, it must have been a brutal schedule. 26 per year 8-10 years.

Leonard Nemoy was a gangster at the railroad tracks.

Clint Eastwood was a bike gang member, a good guy gang of course.

It makes good background noise while you’re working on something.

That's the episode the OP linked to.

OTOH, here's a link to one of the saddest Christmas episodes you'll ever see...with a bit of gun debate mixed in.

Dragnet S02E07 - A Gun for Christmas

Frank Smith: "Well, what's it all prove, Joe?"

Friday: "You don't give a kid a gun for Christmas."

I remember that one well, wasn’t Broadrick on a fishing trip or something.

There was another one about hot-rodding too. Some guy made a hot-rod that blew the doors off the cop cars. Just left them like they were standing still. He and his brother were taking down grocery stores or something.

After a while that .38 racked up quite a body count.

The drowned toddler’s dad was the guy who played Chet in “Emergency!” In fact, Jack Webb was married to the actress who played Nurse Dixie in that show before she married Dr. Early. Jack Webb directed the very first Emergency!episode and you could tell it was very different from all of the subsequent episodes he didn’t direct. 911 doesn’t hold a candle to those great shows from the 60’s-70’s.
