topping Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' contract as the richest ever with a new-money annual average of $35 million per season, [Russell] Wilson's signing bonus also sets a record. Rodgers was first in both categories at $33.5 million and $57.5 million, respectively, on the extension he signed last summer. Wilson is coming off arguably the best season of his seven-year career. He edged his previous career bests with 35 touchdown passes and a 110.9 passer rating while tying his career low of seven interceptions. Wilson did that on 427 attempts, his fewest since 2013, as the Seahawks operated one of the league's most run-heavy offenses. Only Drew Brees and Patrick Mahomes finished with a better rating than Wilson's 110.9...

It’s what top level quarterbacks cost these days.

Surprised he hasn't tried to sign Manziel again.

LOL, don't give him any ideas.

He could be making millions as a backup somewhere. I wonder if he ever regrets his decision.

He has never impressed me. Every ball he throws is like a high, arching floater. He does not have a gun. There is no way that he is worth that much!

He has won a Super Bowl and he has been the driving force of the Seahawks O the last two seasons. Without him I doubt they would be a five hundred team.

Wilson is an intelligent guy and he’s a born again Christian, not a thug, therefore many of his teammates don’t like him. He’s one of the few good guys playing in the NFL.

Well if you can get someone to pay you this much for legal work, take it while you can get it.

That said it really shows just how out of whack the country’s priorities are.

I think that pro sports in general is possibly headed for a big crash. I just don’t see how these astronomical contracts can continue, especially considering the overall decline in television revenues. Maybe I am wrong, of course.

Wow. That is a crazy amount of money. I just don’t think he is a Tom Brady or Dan Marino but maybe I am wrong.

I just don’t see this guy in the league much longer as scramble QBs don’t seem to last to long.

It’s one of the reasons Pro Sports is so anxious to get into the Sports Gambling biz, it’s the only thing that is going to keep them afloat.

No team can afford the price that QB’s command now. Tom Brady gives a discount to the Patriots, that is why they keep winning SB’s.

“...therefore many of his teammates don’t like him.”

The ones that were rumored not to have liked Wilson are all gone now (Sherman, Bennett, etc.). Last year everyone sounded like they were a team. Except for maybe Earl Thomas. But he is gone this year.

concur. Here’s hoping Patrick Mahomes (KC Chiefs) follows in Wilson’s footsteps and not Kaepernick’s.

Players in the NFL get about 49% of revenue. In MLB, players get about 54% of revenue. That works as a business model, which means any decline would be very slow.

MLB had record revenue last year.

The NFL teams have a $188 million salary cap. Not sure how they can afford to spend such a high percentage on one player. They will have 52 others on the roster to pay as well.

Evidently the ownership of the Seahawks doesn't agree with you and since it's their money, what you think doesn't matter a whit.

The salary cap is going to go up, and the money from gambling will take it over $210 Million per team is my guess.

Russell, Mahomes and the kid in Cleveland are worth the price of admission. Russell throws less and still gets 35 TDs? He is s superstar, but I wish he would take a big cut for his team....I would, maybe now after he gets to bank some money. Seriously though, he has enough money to assure his grandchildren will not live in slums, or have to pay for college. He will be worth Billions someday with he and wifeys earning. I would do the same as him, only with a small bonus, and a high salary spread out over 15 years...guaranteed.
