Kate Smith was a sweet, gentle All-American Southern woman. That's the real reason. There wasn't a racist bone in her body. Anyway, she has been dead for over three decades. Mighty brave of the Yankee organization to "take a stand" against a harmless old dead woman.

Oh, well, just one more reason to hate the Yankees.

Maybe they could dig her up and hang her body in chains at Tyburn, and then thrown it into a pit.

After that they could cut her head off and display on a pole outside Westminster Hall.

Just when I was trying to give the Yanks a chance, at redemption, this year.

I hope they catch a LOT of flack over this. Who were the complainers, exactly???

Could be this did not translate well from 1931...

“That’s Why Darkies Were Born” was a popular song written by Ray Henderson and Lew Brown. It originated in George White’s Scandals of 1931. It was most famously recorded by Kate Smith, whose rendition was a hit in 1931,[1] and by Paul Robeson.[2][3] It was also featured in a 1931 all-star recording of a medley of songs from George White’s Scandals, where it was sung by Frank Munn on Brunswick and just as famously part of Paul Whiteman medley sung by Mildred Bailey on Victor.

That’s Why Darkies Were Born Lyrics Someone had to pick the cotton, Someone had to pick the corn, Someone had to slave and be able to sing, That’s why darkies were born;

Someone had to laugh at trouble, Though he was tired and worn, Had to be contented with any old thing, That’s why darkies were born;

Sing, sing, sing when you’re weary and Sing when you’re blue, Sing, sing, that’s what you taught All the white folks to do;

Someone had to fight the Devil, Shout about Gabriel’s Horn, Someone had to stoke the train That would bring God’s children to green pastures, That’s why darkies were born.

The song has been described as presenting a satirical view of racism

Not as bad as the idiots further north who changed the name of Yawkey Way, but this is stupid, too.
