For some reason this reminds me of a guy I know who is opposed to bug spray on animal cruelty grounds. Apparently his better solution would be to trap all the roaches and release them outside. Never did find out if he ever had a chance to put his ideas into practice.
Make it a fair fight - give the cats some anti-aircraft missiles.

I talked to a wildlife biologist when I attended the Mississippi hunter safety instructors academy. He said he kills every feral cat he sees.
He is correct but I just can’t bring myself to kill the ones who come to my porch in a very rural area.

Back in the 70s the river authority here in all their brilliance decided to kill out the “bad” fish like carp and little bony perch. They drained the river 30 feet (too bad they couldn’t be bothered draining so much as an inch during this fall’s massive 40 foot flood that wiped out so many homes and businesses) and had helicopters fly over dumping poison in the water. Never mind people got their drinking water from the river. Surprise!!! Every variety of fish died and people got very sick. That’s the same as what’s going to happen in Australia. Stupid to the nth degree.

1. Poison is extremely cruel. Depending on the type, it causes seizures, hemorrhaging, or burns.
2. Poisons are not selective. This bait will kill non-target species, as well.
3. Cat haters love to go on about the supposed environmental damage that cats cause. However, the damage caused by allowing rodents and other small animals to breed without any checks on their population is worse. Despite what cat-haters who hide behind environmental concerns claim, cats *are* an integral part of ecosystems that humans inhabit.
I wonder, now that this cruel program has been publicized, how much longer it will last?

PS: But then too, millions of rodents; rats and mice.

This type of management has been a problem in Australia for a long time. They import one animal for a supposedly good reason. It quickly get out of control, so they take drastic action without truly looking at the unintended consequences.
