It was intense.
I’ve always been a huge science fiction fan, but only a moderate fantasy fan. I watched the first Lord of the Rings and mostly enjoyed it. I’ve seen parts of the second and now I wouldn’t know which is which regarding movies 2 through however many they made.
I don’t really get into physical fighting scenes, be it with fists or swords. I like guns, be they bullets of lasers. But that’s just me.
One hell of a fight I hear. I have watched every episode since day one — am a story freak and really like the Lord of the Rings as well. Read the novels several times and always find something I missed before -— great reading.
Winterfell’s defenses were poorly planned. No breastworks, using Dothraki cavalry first was an HUGE mistake, not having channeling pits with the Unsullied to force the battle was a tragic oversight, not having enough trebuchet’s and NOT ONE ballista was horrific.
Finally, not having a proper wall defense was just amateur, there was not a single barrel of oil on the wall.
Spoiler alert, Rey shows up and kills Darth White Male!!
Wait, wrong franchise.
But really the same stuff. I am a GOT fan but somehow am detecting a SJW anti-toxic white male bent to this show as with everything coming out of Hollywood these days. All the women are badass and the men are just bumbling fools. Women just rule Westeros from the North on down cause, you know, clearly GRRM is such a feminist.
Once the show went past the books, it opened up the story for the leftist Hollywood goons who can’t resist. Males bad, White Males Really bad!!!
I enjoyed the episode but come on now.
Yeah, it was Hollywood. The more important thing for the script writers was to make sure that despite all the bumbling plans of those men, the woman saves the day.
I hate being cynical about this because I love the show but can’t help but think we have been lead on this nice story just to have Hollywood force another SJW message upon us.
Think it can’t happen with GOT? I used the feel that way about Social Justice Wars, errr, I mean Star Wars.
Yes indeed, there is some of that in GOT.
Martin is a known SJW obnoxious liberal male douche, and he was most certainly “with her” in 2016.
However, I still loved the books, and the show, which was so perfectly cast.
The Night King blew a million to one lead.
Yep. Brienne of Tarth and Arya save the day, and the Hound wusses out under pressure. Jon Snow was fairly ineffective.
That said, Jhorar Mormont was valiant in defense of the woman he loved. He is the ultimate White Male.
I saw “into the badlands” do the same.
The whole show now is women. This year they introduced a black one though.
Movies have never known how to properly construct a battle. The usual formula is to have the two forces engage, while keeping a secret reserve force that shows up and flanks the enemy (See Gladiator and Braveheart and many others).

The worst part of the LOTR trilogy of movies were the ‘epic battle’ scenes. What appeals to me about the tolkien stuff are the more fantastical species and escaping the realms of man. The movies needed more misty mountains and even mordor and less of helms deep and minastirith
Though I’ve never read the books, I understand the author was a friend of C. S. Lewis and a Christian, and he was using his books to telegraph some strong Christian philosophy. Remove that focus, and I suspect you remove the spark that made the books what they were.
I say “suspect”, only because I’ve not read the books and am speaking more about general philosophy.
