A lithium battery in a cell phone can set a plane or fire, scooter batteries are much larger.
Make arrangements with the airline in advance or find loaner batteries for your destination.

United Airlines and the Hotel he stayed at could not provide an old fashion wheel chair? really?
Even my local K-Mart has one of those!
