We've been trying for the past two months to locate a plaintiff's attorney for the purpose of filing suit against a Florida credit union. We don't have a lot of money, so it would require a lawyer willing to work on a contingency fee basis. The attorneys we've chosen indicate on their websites they have handled similar cases. Yet our emails to them have gone unanswered, after we've waited over a week for their reply.
Has anyone on FR had a similar experience? Have we not given these law firms enough time to respond?
Thank you from 4Runner--and 4Runner's wife.
I can’t answer pertinent to your particular case; but if it were me, I’d walk into a law office and inquire within. I wouldn’t let them charge me any fees until it was agreed that this case can be pursued, by them.
My dad is an attorney. They prefer phone calls.
Have you considered going in person instead of emailing?
If you have a free email account from gmail or some other site your emails may be going directly to their spam folder.
Have you checked you Spam folder. Im not joking.
Call them on the phone.
The contingency fee may be a problem. You are talking of suing a credit union and a lawyer will assess whether it is worth his time to work on the come on a contingency fee. Auto accidents are generally contingency fee because lawyers figure they can settle with the insurer. But sending a letter offering a contingency fee in a credit union dispute is not going to spark much attention. You probably have a better chance calling a local county bar association that has a roster of hungry young attorneys that may be more amenable
Try the phone. Old fashioned but still works.
Call on the phone and you need to go there to meet them. Bottom line is they don’t want your case if they won’t make good money on it. Contrary to their ads they are not in business to right wrongs.
How much is your claim?
You need a phone call for that.
We have an aol email account. Reason we use email is so we don’t forget to discuss anything which frequently happens over the phone with us. We’re retired. Last attorney we paid for on an unrelated matter preferred email. We did check spam, there’s nothing there. Thanks.
Pick up the phone, give’em a call.
Better yet, go see’em.
To get a consultation, call. Then use email after you hire someone.
We don’t have that problem in New York where there are ten attorneys on every block. Once you hire them though they never return your calls. If they leave a voice mail, that’s billable hours.
What matters to you, what is outrageous and obvious to you,
when studied more soberly by experts is often regarded as but your side of the story.
Happens to lots of people like you who are in the right.
Itll agg-a-vate your soul.

Very true. A good friend of mine fell on a public sidewalk (the sidewalk was a mess). He ended up with a bad scar. The city wouldn’t pay. So he called an attorney who advertised on local radio. “We will get you justice!”
“Go away, son” the lawyer essentially said. “We’re not interested in nickel and dime work.”
But keep in mind, Credit Unions are member-owned. You could be suing your fellow Florida FReepers. They might need to start e-mailing their attorneys, too.
This could turn into Florida Man v. Florida Man.
Heck it’s very sad when an older person dies from medical malpractice, and the attorneys turn it down because the person had no lost income for the family to claim as damages.
Plaintiffs attorneys are the most greedy and entitled you will meet.
If your claim isn’t “big enough” for a “free” attorney, please check if the credit union has an arbitration provision, or other alternative dispute resolution mechanism. It might even be mandatory versus bringing a law suit. I’d call them and ask if you don’t have the paperwork.
