RuPauls Drag Race and its behind-the-scenes spinoff, Untucked, are cultural touchstones that have launched catchphrases and minted stars. But neither series has ever lit up the ratings. Recent episodes of each series garnered only a few hundred thousand viewers and were the 285th and 359th most-viewed shows in the cable ratings for the week of April 15.
But both series performed extremely well in another ranking.
The Drag Race and Untucked episodes were the No. 3 and No. 9 most watched among same-sex households that same week.
This is according to Nielsens same-sex spouse or partner household rating, a new statistic that, for the first time, provides a snapshot into the viewing habits of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
For some show creators, the inclusion of L.G.B.T. households as a viewing demographic is a long overdue step, and could provide an additional data point to help keep a show on the air. It could also open up a wellspring of information for advertisers that can use it to tailor pitches to viewers most likely to be watching a particular show.

LGBT is everything on modern television. What is lacking is anything for the traditional Christian believer.
Captain Obvious alert.
So if we cut out 95% of the audience we found that 200 gay people ranked Ru Pauls show as #2... thats soooo super!
It is the reason we do not watch most of what is presented. We record everything we watch so we can filter/fast forward out/past the repugnant content they shove in our faces.
Anyone surprised, that homosexuals watch this? But even with this new trend to have homosexuality as a demographic indicator, is there really enough potential audience of such persons out there, to make or break the ratings for a TV show?
Oh my, and I will still stick to a rerun of “Columbo” on tonight on the granny network up here in my locale.
Marketers loves them that disposable income.
Sounds like Nielsens about to open a used UFO lot get your supplies now while they last.
How is this different from a white man performing in blackface?
Yes , TV shows are made to sell ads to those selling.
If they trust the Neilsen numbers and they get results , their choice.
Queers in commercials automatically mean do not buy the product
I only watch 3 channels now, one more lesbo or homo and I won’t watch TV.
No one is LGBT. If you’re “L” you’re not “G”. Etc. They are mutually exclusive. So the term LGBT has got to go.
The only thing I’ve watched on broadcast and cable TV for at least a decade is the occasional sports event and the occasional show on History Channel. Most of my video watching is documentaries on youtube.
I pretty much watch documentaries I find on YouTube. There’s enough out there to keep me occupied.
Don’t miss regular TV one bit.
I have all of Columbo on DVD as well as tons of 50s through 80s shows.
Hallmark is good for Monk marathons too.
Does this mean we are going to get more condom commercials and a name celebrity to hawk them?
