The baby boomers retiring has a lot to do with it.
So the boomers made additional retirement plans other than Social Security?
That is not what I have seen. Glad to know boomers are smarter than those Americans that Believe SS (GVT) will take care of them.
The baby boomers are a huge cohort. They are going to be leaving soon. Then, who cares.
The southern border has much more to do with it.
Re: The baby boomers retiring has a lot to do with it.
The “Not In Labor Force” percentage includes only Americans between 18-65.
Perhaps more Boomers retire early, but the percentage that get S.S. at age 62 has been steady for many years.
My own guess is that the size of the work force has disproportionately increased because of massive immigration, productivity has increased because of cell phones, expert software, robotics, etc., and government benefits are more plentiful and more generous.
It does not have a single thing to do with it. “Not in labor force” excludes the retired.
What it has to do with is the fact that we need to create well over 150k jobs per month just to keep up with population increase, and Obama ran well below that for 8 years. Trying to catch up on exponential growth is a difficult, time-consuming task.
One takeaway is that we still have no need for immigrant labor and could stand to get rid of all of them, legal or not.
And baby boomers had small families.

Yep, and those of us that were diligent about putting money away started retirement early. Had my wife been fortunate enough to have been able to have children maybe that wouldn’t have been the case. I would have traded early retirement for kids/ grandkids any day.
