DNA finally linked Jerome Barrett to the murder of Trimble and the murder of Vanderbilt student Sarah Des Prez. Barrett is a Black Muslim career criminal. He gained early parole in 1974 for sex crimes he committed in Memphis and was released into Nashville by the parole board. In mid-February, before Marcia Trimble's disappearance he was arrested for an attempted break-in at a Vanderbilt girl's dormitory. He was soon back on the streets instead of back serving the rest of his original sentence.
Bumbling cops immediately decided it was a neighborhood kid, because he had a bad word written on his Converse All-Stars.
The cops spent three decades literally hounding this poor fellow before DNA testing showed who the real murderer was.
That innocent kid who was only guilty of bad manners was Jeffrey Womack who later worked in the kitchen at the Jolly Ox steak restaurant in Green Hills. The police sent a detective to work in the kitchen of the Jolly Ox to befriend him and try to milk confidential case information from Womack. But the effort led to nothing.
The more serious bumbling of the case involved ignoring the crime spree around the Vanderbilt and Belmont campuses and the failure to consider the possible link to the Trimble murder. Six crimes were attempted/committed in February and early March of 1975. The little girl scout was taken on February 25th.
It shook me a bit that a child near my age could be selling cookies door to door then... disappeared and later found murdered. and it was in a town nearby. Not like New York or Los Angeles where one expected unusual things happened.

The YouTube video shows Marcia Trimble’s body with her GS cookie boxes scattered beside her. It is one of the most heartbreaking photographs ever taken. The perpetrator is still costing the taxpayers money as he periodically petitions for a new trial.

Belated condolences to families and friends of Marcia Trimble, Sarah Dez and any other victims of Jerome Barrett.
Apparently, one of the attractions to the religion of Mohammed for convicts who are recruited to Islam in prison is that it covers for any hint of a conscience they may have left.
In their new faith they can strike the necks of infidels and take non-Muslim women for their own use. Mohammed consummated his marriage to a bride when she was nine years old. Barret sexually assaulted and killed Marcia Trimble when she was nine years old.

One of the strange twists to the case is that the criminal was apparently out in Marcia’s neighborhood seeking a previous victim who he had cut severely as she fought her way free of him. He had her documents so he knew her name. There was only one Shatzen listing in the telephone directory and it was for Charlotte Shatzen’s parents who had property adjoining Marcia Trimble’s home.
Evidently, Marcia Trimble came upon this monster as he was surveying the neighborhood of his injured victim, Charlotte Shatzen who was attacked near Vanderbilt campus on February 23rd. Marcia was attacked on February 25th.
All the preceding information was not permitted in the trial as it was deemed “prejudicial”.
