Perhaps if they have a girl they will name her “Edith”

Is Archie Bunker (a character on US TV) any better known to Brits?

Not really.

It's widely believed that 'All in the Family' was modelled on an earlier British sitcom 'Till Death Us Do Part' and that Archie Bunker was modelled on its lead character Alf Garnett - whatever the truth of that, while it may have got aired at some point in the UK, it would have been seen as an American copy and to the best of my knowledge didn't get much attention, whereas 'Till Death Us Do Part' is considered a classic.

When I lived in the UK, Prince Philip actually told some exchange students going to Asia, ‘don’t stay too long, you might come back with slitty eyes’ (paraphrased, but close to accurate.....not kidding)

I can just hear the Queen saying, “What a nice negro baby. Which castle do you work in dear?”

Archie looks pretty much white to me:

Harrison? I know Harry is called Harry, but I thought his real name was Henry. Harry is a nickname for Henry so why would they name him Harrison?

We’ll see a different look on the old lady’s face in a couple of years when it comes out as a “woman”.

Named after anti-aircraft fire actually. That’s what British pilots used to call during the wars.

Inasmuch as “Archie” is only 1/32nd Black, he’s LEGALLY even on the American Deep South considered to be “white”.
(Whatever “white” may mean in 2019.)

Fwiw, I’m more Native American, being directly descended from the REAL Pocahontas, daughter of Deep Stream & Little Fawn, than “Archie” is A-A.
(YES, I’m a “part-blood” but still am a tribal member with a “roll number”.)
The Native side of my family intermarried in the Virginia & North Carolina colonies in the early 17th Century. - No my knowledge, we’ve had NO “full-bloods” in the family since, other than perhaps some 3rd, 4th or more distant cousins.

What? You’re saying QE2 is a “typical white woman?”

I’m NOT “only semi-literate” but rather “have some issues with my hands” (they sometimes quiver/shake) & hit the wrong key before correcting obvious mistakes in my previous post.
(As there is no “edit feature” on Free Republic, I cannot fix my typos.)

SORRY.

Safe bet they weren't going to name him Charlie (Gard) or Alfie (Evans).

Cute baby and glad he is healthy though.

The Brits are weird with names. E.g., Sir Freddie Guest. You remember, the Liberal Chief Whip.

About the picture with QE2, Phillip, the baby and so on: According to my wife, an intensive observer in such matters, Meagan’s mother was there at Meagan’s insistence as her mother is, according to Meagan, just as important as the queen.

I certainly wouldn’t deny that the Dutchess believes that her own mother is just as important to HER as HRM is.

Btw, when I was stationed OCONUS & on the staff of a “flag” long ago in USAREUR, The Queen Mother was my favorite Royal.
(When the QM got too old to drive her own Austin Princess & Elizabeth DEMANDED that she be afforded a driver for the car & that “Mum” should “retire from motoring”, Prince Phillip “calmed the waters” by telling the QM that he would see to it that a YOUNG & HANDSOME Royal Marine was assigned as her “personal” - Reportedly, the QM was THRILLED, as she told a close friend that she had always wanted, even during The Late War, “MY very own personal Marine.”)

Inasmuch as my own Mother would have likely responded in much the same way had I hired a handsome UT Longhorns FB player to drive her about, I truly LOL.
(Little old ladies “are a trip”.)

Yours, TMN78247
