A swastika was the original insignia of the US Army's 45th ID, formed after WWI, and drawn from the Southwestern states. That led to the use of an American Indian swastika. (Toward the beginning of WWII, practicality deemed it prudent to change it, still with the Indian theme, to a Thunderbird.)

Heck, in the UK, the remains of a villa from the Roman era was recently discovered, and the tiled floor was a mosaic that had a number of swastika tiles in the mix.
