Democrats Back Bill To Ban The Sale Of Gas-Powered Cars By 2040

Democrats will introduce legislation to mandate zero-emissions vehicles make up all new car sales by 2040. The bill is co-sponsored by three Democrats running for president in 2020 who support the Green New Deal. The internal combustion engine has long been a target for environmentalists.

Democrats will introduce legislation to completely phase out the use of gasoline-powered cars by mandating that only zero-emissions vehicles can be sold by 2040.

“When I take a lungful of air in this moment, it has 30 percent more carbon in it than when I was born,” Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, the bill’s main sponsor told The Huffington Post on Wednesday. “That is a change that has never happened in a single generation of humankind on this planet.”

...small engine gasoline cans. “Title 24” here in California made us install LEDs five years ago in a kitchen, dining room and living room remodel at FAR higher cost.

Several decades ago, we met an old-timer, probably 80 or so, in a Vermont crossroads country store. He said he had never travelled more than 50 miles from his birthplace in his entire life.

THAT is what they want for all of us.

Imagine the New York Thruway (or wherever) in a blizzard and there’s a pile up. And everyone’s electric car loses its power while the vehicles are stuck.

Remember, as recently as 2010 it was essentially impossible to find a commercial EV charging station for a personal vehicle. But thanks to Tesla's Supercharger network and now multiple companies--including the "Big Oil" companies--setting up commercial charging stations, by 2022 it may be almost as easy to find a charging station as a gasoline station.

We need Cash for Clunkers for progressives. There’s more than a few folks on the Left who need all their proverbial oil removed from them and the run till they self destruct.

If they’re this committed to the “cause” they should start walking right now. Ditch their cars.

It’s funny that they won on sulphur dioxide, nitrous oxides, and particulates (which really were filthy) in the air, so they moved on to an inert, colorless, odorless gas that we all exhale and plants live on. You don’t hear them complaining much about the “traditional” pollutants because we’ve done such an outstanding job of cleaning them up. Cars are so clean today that there really is little pollution justification for changing to EVs. So the new raison d’etre for EVs is to “decarbonize” the economy. But that “decarbonizationa” hoax is driven by the big climate lie. People can see with their own eyes that the climate hasn’t changed in the 40 years they’ve been pushing this big scare.

They will take their cue from the wacky gun-control activists... keep the cars but ban the sale of gasoline.

Our local elementary and middle schools are installing EV chargers at every school. About 20 - 25 chargers per school. Nobody is using them because EVs are still a rich man’s toy and school teachers cannot afford them.

Why did the schools install them and the huge solar panels over the parking lots? “Because we got the grant money.”

Gross economic distortions of government grants forcing local schools to make stupid financial decisions to score the “free money.” Makes me sick.

Think about it big picture. We will now have TWO complete refueling infrastructures installed where, previously, ONE did the job. What a waste of money.

It’s like windmills and solar panels. You need to install TWO power plants where one used to do the job. For every kW of wind/solar you install, you have to pay for the same kW from a gas-fired plant, a nuclear plant, or a coal-fired plant. Or install batteries. Either way, you are paying TWICE what you used to pay for the same amount of energy generated.

Pay TWICE the capital amount to build power plants. Pay TWICE the amount for vehicle refueling stations.

It’s an economic plan only communists could love.

Mrs. rktman asked a young man at a local casino the other day, as he was unplugging his tesla, if he had to pay for charging his vehicle. He sheepishly grinned and said “Not yet.” So, when will they start paying for my gas?

I say we reduce the number of gasoline powered cars down to the number adequate to supply those of us who don’t give a damn about those who want to phase them out altogether.
That’s an achievable goal - half.

And besides, we’re all supposed to be zipping around in vehicles equipped with Mr. Fusion anyway, as I recall.

I’ll be 80. Hopefully by that time my idea of travel will be leaving my hut, walking a few steps to the beach and be able to carry a cooler with some snacks and beer.

That’s what REALLY irks me. So many of those charging stations give away “free” electricity which is being paid for by our taxes.

I don’t expect to be here in 2040, age 87, or driving much if I am. But I really hope these self-obsessed morons keep this drumbeat going. They’ve led the Leftist equivalent of a monastery and cloistered life, thinking that the beliefs and opinions of their immediate peers represent some sort of Marxist consensus. Surprise! The rest of us are watching, informed, armed, and waiting for the first move toward an imposed Socialism. This isn’t Venezuela and we’re citizens, not subjects.
