WAY too much happening far too quickly in Season 8.

If you want to get a sense of how (in general) tweaked off the fan base is for how much this has all been rushed without enough time to develop the story better, go read the GOT Reddit - just be prepared to have hours to spare..there are more posts on the topic than anyone can possibly ever hope to read!

Also not loving the story arc on some of our favorite characters..it’s almost like the writers decided to throw 8 years of character development right out the window and go a whole new direction for some of them in a single or at most two episodes..

I’m preparing myself to be disappointed at how it ends tonight..I don’t think it’s going to be a happy ending or the ending any of us have expected, based on how things have gone this season..

HBO wanted 10 episodes for Season 8 but the producers insisted on 6.

Word is they wanted to end it now in order to start the new Star Wars.

My opinion is the Weiss and Benioff are very quintessential Hollywood creatures. They are very skilled at promoting glam and spectacle, and expert at the technical aspects of producing such an epic. But they will resort to fairly typical cliches and narratives of modern Hollywood entertainment.

But IMHO, this is evident as the series has become a bit more one-dimensional and wooden after the series diverged from RR Martin’s books. They no longer had his twists and turns and singular, out-of-the-box thinking to rely on

There’s few characters left at this point, so I don’t think there are too many unusual turns the story can take.

How do the actual story ends in the books?

Yes, everything is rushed. The show has walked away from the deep history and the prophecies. It has devolved into a medieval slaughterfest to pick a new king. There’s nothing wrong with medieval slaughterfests if that’s the story you want to tell, but GOT started on a very different plane.

The ending is supposed to be “bittersweet”, but I haven’t seen any “sweet” - just “bitter”.

Most of the character’s story arcs, choices, and sacrifices seem to be rather pointless.
