I’ve Had 2 Abortions. Here’s Why I Support Alabama’s Pro-Life Law.
The Daily Signal ^ | May 19, 2019 | Leslie Dean

’m an unlikely person to be supporting Alabama’s new pro-life law. I was pro-choice for many years, and as a young woman I had not one, but two abortions.

Both of my abortions would have been illegal under Alabama’s new law passed last week. The law bans abortion at all stages and allows an exception only to save the life of the mother. Other states like Missouri and Louisiana aren’t far behind Alabama—and I applaud them all.

I’ve come a long way to get to this position. As I mentioned, I was once pro-choice. In 1972, I actually joined a high school walk-out march protesting the fact that Planned Parenthood wasn’t allowed to do a presentation at our school.

After graduating from nursing school, but before receiving my license, I was working in a hospital in Maryland. One evening, I was asked to assist a doctor with some procedures. I was not aware that this hospital did second trimester abortions until I arrived on the floor and was given my assignment.

There were three women there—all had been given saline injections into their uterus, and then placed on Pitocin drips to encourage contractions.

I spent the majority of time with one of the women, a 29-year-old who shared with me the circumstances behind her decision to abort. She had come home early from work the day before, and caught her husband on their living room couch having sex with another woman.

She said she left the house, and in her extreme hurt and anger decided the best way to get back at him was to tell him she had a miscarriage brought on from the shock of what she had witnessed. He would never know she had actually aborted their child.

Leslie Dean faced the truth when she saw the painful death of a saline abortion. Some others just look the other way.

The unspoken truth of the guilt often felt among those who have had an abortion.

This isn’t merely a woman’s problem

Its a man’s problem too. We read the same stories over-and-over again: my “boyfriend” wasn’t ready for marriage, my husband was abusive, we were having financial problems, etc...

Men are equally as responsible for abortions, when they don’t act responsibly towards women. guys - if you aren’t ready to support a child, then don’t have sex. its that’s simple

We have 3 adult children. Before we had our first son we lost a baby in miscarriage. Kim Blair. I will meet this child in heaven. I cannot even imagine the tragedy of abortion. Miscarriage is painful enough.

In this day and age I find it almost impossible to believe that there are women that don’t know what is inside of them. Truly, with all the information available, all the images and now 4D imaging, I just don’t believe that the majority don’t know what is inside of them. Maybe it’s denial more than ignorance.

Some churches have a 12 step program for women who abort. 20 years later they suffer severe guilt and depression.

At 19 - 20 weeks the child’s nervous system in the skin is extremely sensitive since the skin has not thickened to be more protection. The saline method is unspeakable evil, a tortuous death in every aspect.!

Some people assert that if a woman has had an abortion, then she cannot claim abortion is wrong. To them it’s like she loses any moral right to condemn the practice because of willfully participating in it. What I like to point out is we teach children that lying and stealing are wrong yet aren’t we all guilty of telling lies or taking something that didn’t belong to us in the past? Teaching them moral absolutes/right from wrong is our responsibility and we certainly should make sure we aren’t being hypocrites when we do so. I think women who have had abortions but then come to the knowledge of the truth and deeply regret doing so make some of the BEST defenders of the prolife argument.

By the same token, many women who have had abortions go on to vehemently defend a woman’s “right” to abortion and much of it stems from their own internal - though seldom acknowledged - guilt over doing so and they seek to justify and rationalize it as a way of compensating for that sense of loss. A lot of healing needs to happen not just for women but for the men who were involved directly or passively, too.

It’s telling how stridently any attempts to impose “informed consent” laws over abortion are fought by the pro-abortion side. One would think it’s logical to make sure a woman really understands what she is agreeing to about the life she is seeking to terminate/kill, but it is as if the abortion lobby fears losing the business. They really are NOT pro-CHOICE at all.

The experience of the nurse in this article is repeated across the country and is happening to the doctors as well. Fewer people want to have any part in the murder of the unborn. It’s no wonder the rabid abortion lobby is demanding that medical personnel be forced to carry out abortions. We must do all we can to fight this pernicious evil - and it IS a grave evil that Almighty God is going to judge. “Vengeance is mine”, saith the Lord, “I will repay.”

God bless you, buffyt. My wife and I have four adult children, and have had two miscarriages. We still think of the little ones.

And God bless my beautiful wife. I came into the relationship thinking “pro-choice” was okay. She firmly, and lovingly showed me the error of my ways. And, having our first child slapped the remaining childish leftist crap right out of me.

I have some regrets in my life, but thank the Lord, murdering my children is not one of them.

That is why they militantly oppose exposure. They know that guilt is both powerful and beneficial in this context.

Thank you for posting this. I put it on my FaceBook, but I am honestly concerned about what the fall-out will be. I do not usually post explicitly political things on FaceBook. But somehow my liberal friends never pause to think about how their posts will alarm me, so I don’t know why I should not make the pendulum swing the other way and introduce them to my point of view. nevertheless, I do not know what will happen, and it concerns me.

Yes, these days, all you'd have to do is search for the information on the internet. Also, ultrasounds are available today.

Still, some women might believe that pro-lifers are lying and that PP clinics are telling them the truth.

I support the pro-life posts that appear on my FB news feed. And I don’t give a flyin’ # about those who disagree.

Good on you for sharing.
