It was a fun movie for us kids at the time. John Wayne / baby elephant / Baby Elephant Walk song.
Well, to be honest, I have never been interested in the “kings & hobbits & Rings” genre that seem to be targeting pre-teen and teen groups.
I do note a “Sarah” nude scene in “Terminator: Genisys”...albeit brief.
I exclusively watch British TV (thanks, Acorn, Britbox and PBS) but though several British actors I enjoy on other shows were in GOT, I had no interest in it due to the violence, PC-ness, etc. Being a lifetime scifi fan and having loved various shows in their time, its an experience to watch a phenomenon like GOT from the outside.
I don’t like fantasy films or shows either. GOT was different because the source book material is much better than usual.
GOT was not PC when it first came on and followed the books. That was part of the interest.
Another yawner... just like the whole season.
If you’re going to make Bran the king, at least allude or foreshadow oh his 3-eyed junk will make things different.
I dunno.
I don’t care.
Daktari was a TV show, late ‘60s.
Hatari was a John Wayne movie, early ‘60s
I watched "Reign of Fire" and was rooting for the dragon. Is that wrong? :-)
Saw it in the theater. Skydiving Dragon-Hunters. Impressive on the Big Screen.
I agree with your entire post.
Martin would have brought it to a different conclusion. Too bad he didn’t finish the series.
I really tried to get into it.
Pushed my way thru season one and decided it didn’t work for me.
Babylon 5 is a much better soap opera and its a very good look at the political battle going on in the USA.
Amazon Prime right now.
Lessons:
There are good and bad people on both sides of the fence.
No one is exactly who they appear to be.
Infiltrators are everywhere.
Those who really are in power are not who you thought were in power.
I’m with you. I enjoyed it for the most part, but the series couldn’t hold a candle to the books, all of which I’ve read. People who proclaim that it was just a soap opera may be right, but miss the fact that, from incest to murder, it pretty closely mirrors the history of monarchical Europe.
I, for one, had no problem with the ending and I’m not sure what those who howled so loudly about the ending (few of whom read the books, I’m sure) wanted to happen. I can say that I’m glad it’s over.
I think I seen one snippet of dragons on you tube one time - haven’t watch tv since 2003
For example, consider Tywin Lannister's instruction to his grandson and king to be Tommen. Tywin gently warns the boy that being a good king requires not piety but wisdom. The author is saying, in effect, "Hey, you social justice types, the world operates on principles other than what you think. Good intentions are not enough. Wisdom is what matters." These days, saying that too sternly could well get you banned from Facebook.
The Walking Dead is of similar effect. Like GOT, it portrays a fallen world in which bad and lethal things can happen in an instant, with good intentions often a snare. During the 2016 election, TWD was loaded with Trump commercials. After the election, my hunch as to why this was so was confirmed: Trump's team had put a heavy ad buy into the show because their surveys found that viewers of The Walking Dead were unusually receptive to Trump and his message.
In effect, The Walking Dead collected and prepped an audience who were receptive to Trump's appeal. Never have zombies and gory makeup been put to a more constructive purpose.
I’ll never understand while people are so proud to exclaim that they have never watched a show/movie and couldn’t care less, yet take the time to post in a thread about it. It’s almost as if it’s an odd version of virtue signaling. It’s rampant. Must be the belief that it’s cool not to care, I suppose.
And when you paint yourself into a corner plot-wise, cue the fire-breathing dragons.
Yes, all of season 8 and about half of season 7 seemed really rushed. It totally jumped the shark IMO with episode 4 of the last season. I saw one of the show runners explaining that Daenerys lost her second dragon and fleet "because she'd forgotten about the Euron Greyjoy and the Iron Fleet". Really? That's your explanation? This last season was pretty much a washout for me. The only gripping episode was "The Long Night" (ep. 3), in which Daenerys selflessly came north to fight the Night King before going total Hitler in ep. 5.
I was not as bothered by the last episode as I might have been, had it not followed the train wreck of episode 5. However, I do not see how Drogon doesn't incinerate Jon Snow after Jon killed his "mother". I collected digital versions of all the previous seasons. I doubt I will ever revisit it now (or buy season 8).
It had a happy ending! After their job was done, all the immigrants left the country!
Oh boy, a whole thread full of people who never watched it.
Ignorance abounds.
