An emotional Emilia Clarke paid tribute to Daenerys Targaryen, her former cast-mates and her late father on Sunday evening as fans digested the dramatic finale of HBOs long running fantasy drama, Game Of Thrones. Millions stayed up late to watch as the show came to an end after nine years, eight season and hundreds of brutal deaths, but many were underwhelmed by its final episode, which included plenty of shock moments and one unfortunate editing gaffe.

I watched one episode and judged it to be a dark soap opera with lots of CGI, sexy women, and unwashed men.
I passed on it.
Considering the ending, I think they just sent DVD sales and residuals down the toilet.
You’ve seen one more episode that I have.
Your life is enriched for having NOT seen any. ;-)
I’ve watched the entire thing and you’re not wrong. Basically a soap opera with lots of swords, sex, violence, a smattering of magic thrown in. Really though, most long running series are at their heart soap operas - all about the character development. In that regard “Sons of Anarchy” was a soap opera with motorcycles, guns, and violence. Similarly “Breaking Bad” with money, drugs, and violence. They all draw people in, the show is just a backdrop, the real story is the characters and their interactions.
It’s pretty amazing how the show managed to start off with a really strong 1st season, then get slightly worse in an almost linear progression toward the sh!tshow that was Season 8. The rate of decline might have increased after Season 4, but it was still a non-stop slide until the end. Everything you would expect from modern media was added, from shoe-horned in diversity, to explicitly gay stuff that is only rumored in the books, and over the top feminism. Thank God that is over. The two writers that oversaw this disaster will be moving on to Star Wars. At least that franchise is already horrible, so there’s only so much damage they can do.
I agree. Terrible business decision.
Why buy something that’s such a downer?
The writers gave up on Season 8 and produced crap so they could move on to things closer to their hearts, like gay porn.
This is a big reason why we watch so little TV any more. A series might start out well, then producers lose interest, production values go south, writers get woke, actors won’t shut up off the set...
And a great series goes to the dogs.
That’s why I like books.
I passed through a room where it was being watched and saw just less than a minute. Never watched it after that.
Perhaps I would have enjoyed it a bit more knowing "Sarah Connor (2015)" was in the cast.
II have yet to watch it. Doubt I will.
I started GoT with the books. Then the author was bought by tv. He never finished the book series. Hopefully, he’s allowed to write and has a better ending this to share.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the usual round of “I haven’t watched anything since Hatari in 1963” is rather disappointing in a discussion of a particular long running show.
I accept the ending, people who think Bran is a crazy choice for king don’t realize in the books, GRRM writes beautifully I’d say lovingly about Bran.
I liken it to the Sopranos ending, annoying at the time, poignant in retrospect.
Yes you missed her nude scenes (just mentioning).
I am at the point where while I follow what is happening on FR I no longer watch anything from big entertainment anymore. Didnt use to be that way. I watched too much tv and movies and music in days of yore. As far as soap operas one of the reasons I liked the old Dallas night time soap is that it didnt have any pretensions of not being exactly what it was. It did at the beginning have elements of the Romeo and Juliet story like West Side Story did as well but that was about it.
I dont think Ive even seen Hatari in 1963 or since! :)
Great series, terrible ending.
I enjoyed it, but the last season was definitely rushed/hurried, and it showed. The writers who took over from George Martin are being roundly - and deservedly - criticized for their mishandling.
The dragon CGI was amazing. I thought the monstrous dragon in “Reigen of Fire”, and Smaug in “The Hobbit” were good, but this was amazing.
As far as TV goes this day, it was so-so OK. I will admit that without Peter Dinklage I probably would not have watched the whole thing. They gave him some fantastic lines, and I must say, he can act.
