I watched one episode and judged it to be a dark soap opera with lots of CGI, sexy women, and unwashed men.
I passed on it.
Considering the ending, I think they just sent DVD sales and residuals down the toilet.
It’s pretty amazing how the show managed to start off with a really strong 1st season, then get slightly worse in an almost linear progression toward the sh!tshow that was Season 8. The rate of decline might have increased after Season 4, but it was still a non-stop slide until the end. Everything you would expect from modern media was added, from shoe-horned in diversity, to explicitly gay stuff that is only rumored in the books, and over the top feminism. Thank God that is over. The two writers that oversaw this disaster will be moving on to Star Wars. At least that franchise is already horrible, so there’s only so much damage they can do.
The writers gave up on Season 8 and produced crap so they could move on to things closer to their hearts, like gay porn.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the usual round of “I haven’t watched anything since Hatari in 1963” is rather disappointing in a discussion of a particular long running show.
I accept the ending, people who think Bran is a crazy choice for king don’t realize in the books, GRRM writes beautifully I’d say lovingly about Bran.
I liken it to the Sopranos ending, annoying at the time, poignant in retrospect.
As far as TV goes this day, it was so-so OK. I will admit that without Peter Dinklage I probably would not have watched the whole thing. They gave him some fantastic lines, and I must say, he can act.
I exclusively watch British TV (thanks, Acorn, Britbox and PBS) but though several British actors I enjoy on other shows were in GOT, I had no interest in it due to the violence, PC-ness, etc. Being a lifetime scifi fan and having loved various shows in their time, its an experience to watch a phenomenon like GOT from the outside.
Another yawner... just like the whole season.
If you’re going to make Bran the king, at least allude or foreshadow oh his 3-eyed junk will make things different.
I dunno.
I don’t care.
I really tried to get into it.
Pushed my way thru season one and decided it didn’t work for me.
Babylon 5 is a much better soap opera and its a very good look at the political battle going on in the USA.
Amazon Prime right now.
Lessons:
There are good and bad people on both sides of the fence.
No one is exactly who they appear to be.
Infiltrators are everywhere.
Those who really are in power are not who you thought were in power.
I think I seen one snippet of dragons on you tube one time - haven’t watch tv since 2003
It had a happy ending! After their job was done, all the immigrants left the country!
Oh boy, a whole thread full of people who never watched it.
Ignorance abounds.
