Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the usual round of “I haven’t watched anything since Hatari in 1963” is rather disappointing in a discussion of a particular long running show.
I accept the ending, people who think Bran is a crazy choice for king don’t realize in the books, GRRM writes beautifully I’d say lovingly about Bran.
I liken it to the Sopranos ending, annoying at the time, poignant in retrospect.
I dont think Ive even seen Hatari in 1963 or since! :)
I’m with you. I enjoyed it for the most part, but the series couldn’t hold a candle to the books, all of which I’ve read. People who proclaim that it was just a soap opera may be right, but miss the fact that, from incest to murder, it pretty closely mirrors the history of monarchical Europe.
I, for one, had no problem with the ending and I’m not sure what those who howled so loudly about the ending (few of whom read the books, I’m sure) wanted to happen. I can say that I’m glad it’s over.
I also though the entire series was well done and grossly entertaining. The ending didn’t disappoint me. I grant the production team their poetic license. Anytime I think I can do better, well, I’ll just go out there and make these myself. ;-D
