I have a record of Jesse McReynolds playing the Grateful Dead. He originated his namesake cross-picking style for mandolin. I could never master it.
Those bluegrass ‘brother-duets’ were hard to beat. Jim and Jesse, especially. On top of that, they always had top-drawer musicians over the decades. On banjo, Shelton, Shupping and Carl Jackson! All greats! Fiddler Joe Meadows was second to no one and a truly nice guy with a superb sense of humor. I played a few gigs with him before his passing.
