Some people say trees have souls, too.
Some of the confusion is caused by Biblical references in English translations where references to a living thing’s (animal or plant)’s spirit of life being assumed to mean the same thing as a soul. In the original language it is probably more obvious that there is a distinction.
Doesn’t say that bushes have souls, of course, but this may be where some people might get the idea...it does seem to attribute a certain level of awareness even to shrubs. Maybe this was also where Mohammed dreamed up he idea that rocks and bushes will speak up and out Jews hiding behind them.
Job 12:7-10 English Standard Version (ESV)
7
But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
8
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;[a]
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
9
Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10
In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.
