“How much does it cost to climb Mount Everest?”

How much do Sherpas make?

Today, Local guides are hired by climbing companies. Sherpa get paid the paltry amount of between $3,000-$5,000 US-Dollars for the climbing season, plus bonuses if they climb the Everest. https://www.staeudtner.com/allgemein/sherpa-salary-needs-to-increase-tenfold/

4,000 would be climbers paid $11,000 each for a climbing permit. That does include sherbas, equipment, food etc to basically freeze and risk death. Nepal just views this as a economic boost to their country. Heard so far 7 climbers have died this week.

Reminds me when we went to the Great Wall of China at Badaling. A stunningly beautiful place, but all you saw was nonstop hordes of tourists going up and down. My wife was so freaked out by the people she refused to go up the stairs.

One of the bigger disappointments in my life. (Of course, by being there I was one of that crowd.) I have found similar situations at other “famous” tourist destinations we have been to—the Forbidden City and Angkor Wat being two others. Frankly, the advent of easy travel has ruined a lot of things.

Okay, those people are just brain dead insane. By the way, that is the longest list of recipients for the Darwin Award that I have ever seed.

Who cares! Just like the idiots who pay $10,000 for Super Bowl tickets. I’d rather be home listening to Coltrane.

Some people will go to extremes to get a Darwin award. Good opportunity for an experiment. Does the mortality rate correlate with the amount of time a human is forced to breathe air at 28,000 feet? Most of these people make the climb but are stuck up there much longer than they expected due to the congestion preventing a quick descent. Sure they get very acidodic as they become hypoxic and dehydrated and then try to walk and carry their belongings. Even a very fit climber is subject to sudden death. And for what? For another patch on your jacket? Some silly notion of self satisfaction and accomplishment?
