The man who pleaded guilty to throwing a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in April received a sentence of 228 months (19 years) Monday morning.
Two-thirds of that sentence must be spent in prison.
Emmanuel Aranda, 24, was charged with attempted premeditated first-degree murder. During a hearing, Aranda said he knew throwing the child over the balcony could kill him.
Aranda agreed to a plea deal in the case roughly three weeks ago.
Through statements read in court, the family of 5-year-old Landen, who is still recovering, had a chance to address Aranda prior to sentencing.
Family members called for the maximum sentence, even while saying they forgive Aranda for his actions.
"I refuse to be full of anger and hatred," Landen's mother said in a statement. "I refuse to let you take my joy."
"You get to take nothing from us. You chose to listen to the devil that day. I don't get to judge you or hate you. Instead I am full of God's love."
"On what was to be a normal day for us of fun and playing, a day meant for good, you chose to commit a horrific, violent act," a statement from Landen's father said. "An act intended for harm. An act intended to kill and destroy.
"Thankfully, our family serves a mighty God who is faithful to his people. A God who intends to protect and serve. A God whose will is to protect and make all things work for the good of those that love him.
"You intended evil that day. But God works all for good."
Aranda declined the chance to speak in court before he was sentenced.
Little “Jailhouse Justice” needed here!
I’m curious as to where he will be housed.
Yeah, what is this mandatory sentence of 19 years....but only 2/3 mandatory in prison?
We are such a society of wimps. Id like to say that bout the victims,as well....speaking of all love is NOT helping any rehab which SHOULD come with plenty of righteous indignation.
If he even lives that long in prison. When word gets out he did this he will be lucky to be alive a year from now. POS should have been shot to begin with.
The Muslim Brotherhood will protect him.
My first thought....
huh. I was expecting time served.
“19 years... Thats not nearly enough.”
It’s 19 years too many.
If the general population in the prison he is sent to, find out he’s there for throwing a child off of a balcony, chances are he will be lucky to live a year.
Thats it for a premeditated murder attempt of a 5 year old? Thats not nearly enough.
It’s Minnesota.
It is one of the most powerful testimonies to God I have ever had the privilege to hear. This is the goodness that overcomes evil.
I hope the man who critically injured an innocent 5-year-old child in his attempt to murder him, will receive God's mercy in the form of the strength to hate, detest, abhor and reject his sin, and may unresistingly receive God's justice and judgment in the perfect form it will surely take.
Should have had his hands bound and thrown from the roof.
The family has been a class act since day one.

Indeed, they show a lot more Christian charity than I ever could.
Probably not enough Cracker criminals in Minnesota to stand up to them.
Yes, Minnesotan's are that nice.
Then why isnt he going to mental facility?
We’re putting someone mentally challenged into the prison system?
Is he not a refugee? I thought he was.
Nevermind. I somehow missed the very first comment.
“We are such a society of wimps.”
Correct...way too much forgiving going on when what is needed is a white hot, unceasing desire for brutal revenge.
By the way, when is the filth Noor going to be sentenced for murdering the Aussie girl? Probably will get less time then the kid thrower.
I can’t find proof of mental problems. Does anyone have a link?
Seems he was ordered to be evaluated but no word on the outcome except he was sent to a correctional facility afterwards? Wouldn’t that imply no mental issues found?
