Thousands of people have backed a campaign in Japan calling for the government to ban workplaces from including high heels in their mandatory dress codes for women.
The #KuToo movement - which is a play on #MeToo and an amalgam of the Japanese terms for "shoes" and "pain" - was launched by actress and freelance writer Yumi Ishikawa.
She said she is required to wear high heels while working at her current part-time job in a funeral parlour.
In an online petition, she listed the health issues women face when consistently wearing high-heeled shoes, including bunions, blisters and pain in the lower back, which can lead to further concerns.
She wrote: "Funeral work is standing work, and you have to move around".

I love Japan! High heels are torture. Why should one gender be forced to wear them? Either everyone wears them by force, or let people choose if they want their beautiful feet bound and placed in a way that hurts their entire spine.
Um, you’re associating the girl’s good looks with her footwear. You could show the same pictures of her, with her wearing either low pretty sandals, cute platforms, or barefoot. You’d not suddenly frown and wrinkle your nose at her.
The one where the *&$% really hit the fan:
Japan Airlines required all women onboard as part of a months-long Disney promotional to wear MICKEY MOUSE EARS.
Some liked it but some thought it was childish.

They look good without them too. I am not going to impose on a fellow human being just because I think something looks nice. Next thing you know, they could force men to wear suits and neckties.

That footwear is completely inappropriate for a workplace anyway.
High heels....aka butt Jacks...aka ankle breakers.
A boot with a 1-2” heel is plenty for me.

And of course it's crazy and ridiculous to force women to wear them, no matter how sweet and sexy they look in them.
Mandatory high heels is stupid.

Yep. They should allow women to wear whatever shoe they want. Health is my main reason for this. However, remember that as the United States started to relax standards, we ended up with a sloppy mess that includes wearing pajamas. Take heed Japan.
