The courts have already ruled that there is no obligation for law enforcement to protect anyone except for those who are under arrest or who are incarcerated.

He'd probably just charged for lesser or minor crime, i.e., dereliction of duty with lesser penalty or only slap in the wrist, or he'll get away with it if they'd charge him what we're hearing now.

Meaning this guy will get away with it. The intent most likely is to try him and find him not guilty. Local taxpayers will be used to foot trial costs merely to sooth official nerves.
