I've seen many pharmacies advertising the offering of Measles vaccine; is this targeting the illegal entrant invaders and their children, or will it soon be for everyone--especially adult citizens on up?

Most of us “old timers” had the actual disease which produces life long immunity.

Your doctor can check titers to see if you need a booster.

The correct answer is “maybe”.

If you are concerned, the best thing to do is to have a blood test for immunity (it’s called “rubeola immune screen” or sometimes “measles immune screen”).

HTH.

My family, including me, got the MMR booster.

In fact we went through the whole round of all common vaccines again.

There is a large contingent of Luddites in my religious community, so we have to rely on primary immunity, and cannot rely on herd immunity.

Seeing the doc this week for the TDAP - tetanus, diphtheria & pertussis. I’m gonna ask about the MMR. Thanks for the alert.

Probably not.

I went to work ata hospital and before I could start they did a round of boosters and immunizations. They tested for measles antibodies...and they were strong after 50 years.

Of course, I had chicken pox and mumps. So the other two parts were moot.

If you want to be sure you can get your panels tested. I don’t know if getting another shot is going to hurt you if it’s not needed. That’s a question for your doc.

They make Viagra if you need a booster.

Been there, did that. Also pertussis (whooping cough). Never had the mumps, though.

For what it's worth. Tetanus weakens and you need a booster every ten years. The feds say if you were born before 1957 you don't need an MMR.(?)

Recall measles parties, when Mom would drag you over to some strange kid's house, where the poor kid was sick as a poisoned pup, and you were expected to play for a few hours?

You should ask your doctor.Though it probably wouldn’t hurt you at all.

He lays a hand on my titers and I'll punch him in the face!

There are any number of vaccines out there, for any number of diseases, and you should get every one of them ... preferably at the same time.

If that’s the case you might need The Bro or a Manssiere .....

Just in keeping with protocol. Any vaccine, any time, at any age, for any reason, in any combination.

I don't do it that way, of course, but I'm a Neanderthal.

Thanks Jim !
Many of the new immigrants and travelers are bringing diseases that we long ago had eliminated in this country.
We risk exposure especially if we don't recall which vaccines and diseases we have already had during our youth.
International travelers have a list of which shots and vaccines on their medical record,
perhaps now the general public should similarly obtain their medical records of vaccines and disease exposures.
The "“rubeola immune screen” or sometimes called “measles immune screen” is a worthwhile test,
and should be covered by most medical insurance.
