Does sound like a gator trick. Also, any concern among the populace that the one who placed the knife there might be a missing person now?

The resident should step up and pull the knife out rather than wait on someone else to do it.

Don’t bring a knife to a croc fight.

If he survived to be a one-armed man, perhaps he would like his knife kindly returned to him?
