A 17-year-old resident of Loudoun County, Virginia is a finalist in Duck Tapes annual Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest, in which high school students compete to make the best possible prom wear out of duct tape.
Christina Mellott, now a rising senior at Freedom High School, entered the contest this past school year after hearing about it from friends and family.
Mellott has been designing clothes for three to four years already, and got her start in design after receiving a sewing machine for Christmas.
Her friends and family thought she may be able to cinch the Duck Tape competition because they knew about her design hobby. Mellott took up the challenge, thinking it would be a fun challenge to use tape to make a dress.

Thanks!
Oddly enough, regular duct tape should not be used on ducts!

And there is a tuxedo competition.
But it should be used on ducks.
So where is the duck in a prom dress?
Since middle school, I've dreamed of designing my prom dress from Duck Tape.
Learn something new everyday.
I think duct/duck tape had its origins during WWII, sealing ammo boxes.
It was based on an existing adhesive tape, adding the waterproof coating.
I’m glad she didn’t decide to apply her creative talents to meat, like whatshername at some MTV(?) awards show.
I was expecting to see some real silliness here, then the photo you posted didn’t look like duct tape at all. So I bing’d “duct tape prom” and it’s amazing what these kids have done! Very cool.
