AZ is a constitutional carry state but it is very rare to see someone open carrying a weapon. What we do have is a lot of ineffective concealment. It's hot, clothing is light and. Belt clips are a common sight and a Glock 26 sticks out like a sore thumb under a tee shirt - tucked or not.

Last year in Mesa a guy was open carrying while in line at a fast food place. Someone came up behind him, reached down, grabbed his gun and ran off before the guy could even react. The moral of the story is that if you are going to open carry, use an effective retention holster and stay alert.

Sorry, the theft took place in 2016 in a not great part of Phoenix, not last year in Mesa. Apologies to folks in Mesa.

I’m in Az too and see that open opportunity all the time. Some folks should just not carry open because they have bad habits and open themselves up to others and the ability to take their firearm. Those need to conceal carry for sure.
