Devil went down to London...looking for a soul to steal.

Unlike the incident down in Georgia made famous by Charlie Daniels, the Devil appears to have won this round.

People who play musical instruments are extra smart?

That’s probably why professional musicians are so not into all the various forms of self destructive hedonism.

Oh, wait...

That is why you set the barriers very high. Allow no drinking without personal supervision. Marijuana usage punished like it is Heroin. Pre-16 YO dating not allowed. 16-18 YO under strict supervision of dating. Early curfews, check out their friends parents, disallow sleepovers you cannot be sure of...etc. Kids are going to break the rules, let them do it by smoking a little pot or drinking some beer. If you allow pot and drinking, they will step over a different line...Cocaine, meth, heroin etc.

From about the age of 14 on, my father would occasionally let me take a beer from the refrigerator. So long as I drank it in front of him. Typically if I was assisting him on some project such as cleaning the gutters or painting the house, he'd tell me to get him a beer and "grab one for myself" as well. Then I would run to the refrigerator before he changed his mind.

"When you work like a man you can drink like a man" was one of his sayings.

My mom hated it and thought I was being corrupted. But those were some of my most pleasant memories with my dad - who was otherwise very strict and not much for words. He did say more than one time that if he ever caught me messing around with drugs, he'd throw me out of the house and disown me. I think he was dead serious too.

Those early beers satisfied my curiosity about alcohol and I never had anything to do with drugs. And my school was a hotbed for drugs of all kind. I stayed away from them and the kids that used them.

Bet taking the combo wasn’t her first foray into drugs or her first very bad decision.

She was trying to play “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” when a string broke and went up her nose and into her brain.

Good parenting on your dads part.

You can be a very good parent and your kid still gets high.

You can be a very bad parent and your kid stays clean.

But these are exceptions. Parents need to own their authority and demand and enforce good behavior from their kids. It’s not a cure all but it makes a big difference.

I’ll rephrase that. CK binge ODs usually happen after tolerance developed by prior abuse of the same drugs or very similar drugs.

Just an example of why folks under 21 (25 really) shouldn’t vote and why Dems want kids to vote - mental ;processes not fully developed and the propensity to succumb to peer pressure is very high as societal socialization finishes the first stage of social development...fitting in...
