Today's form of communism in the United States is the result of a society wealthy enough to afford it - these are the people in formal dress who identify with the ones dressed in rags in Paris in Les Miserables and think it's all real. These are not proletarians. Nor, despite their pretensions, are they any intellectual cadre. They're spoiled, self-righteous children looking for excitement and happy to find it at others' expense.

Historically the cure for this indulgence is privation, which isn't good news for the rest of us who are going to be taken along for the ride. Whether it's even stoppable at this point is very difficult to say.

I could not agree more, and I wouldn’t change a word of your post. I was thinking to myself yesterday how the left has pretty much destroyed what we used to call fun back in my youth. What they are doing now is a form of entertainment for them, a very dangerous form of entertainment for civilization but entertainment none the less.
