People who have small dogs have been warned to keep their pets inside after a chihuahua was snatched by a seagull from its owner's back garden.
Gizmo, a four-years-old chihuahua, is still missing after a bird swooped down and carried the animal away in its beak.
Becca Hill, 24, of Paignton, Devon, is hoping her pet will be found alive, and has asked locals to keep a lookout for it.
"My partner was in the garden putting the washing out at the time and suddenly he saw it swoop down. It carried Gizmo a fair way as we couldn't see him any more. I have no idea if he was dropped or where he is now," Ms Hill told the Devon Live website.
She also posted about Gizmo on Facebook. "Please, please, please, anyone finds a chihuahua he's mine, a seagull took him from my garden," she wrote.
Ms Hill said her six-year-old daughter is "really upset" and "missing her dog".
Experts have been drafted in as the search for the pet continues, and neighbours have been checking their roofs and gardens.
UAV lost dog search and rescue who have been helping the family said on Sunday night: Search for this evening has been called off.
"A lot of gardens have been checked and cleared along with rooftops, garage roofs and trees.

Seagulls...winged rats.
Ah, for a video of this snatch.
Dog was too damned small.
God never intended there to be dogs that seagulls could snatch.
Damn! I thought it was bad when the damn seagull ran away with my freaking ENTIRE Big Mac in Buenoventura Plaza (now Pacific View) in Venture, CA.
Then the bastard came back and laughed at me perched on the post he nailed me from). I should have had gull wings surprise.
3lbs is the smallest dog I’ve seen. Could a seagull carry that weight?
Gull wing surprise=1 1/8 ounce of #6 shot?
Lady, your dog is now decorating somebody’s freshly-washed car.
Nom nom nom.........
So much wrong here. It’s the back YARD limeys. Carried off in it’s beak? Yikes! The ‘partner’? Hanging out the “wash”? To dry in Houston? Feel bad for the pup regardless of its size.
It depends on if it was an African or European Seagull
What if it’s a Lesbian Seagull?
Owls take much larger critters here as do hawks. Saw a raven kill and haul off a ground squirrel once.
One dive-bombed me on Clearwater Beach, FL. I was preparing to take a bite of my luscious BLT, when a gull swooped down and knocked it out of my hand, sending B, L, T and bread flying every direction. Within 15 seconds, others and maybe the culprit, too, swooped down and made off with all the goodies. I learned that’s common on that beach if one isn’t vigilant.
Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh
Those seagulls go for remnants
Small enough to fit right down a Seagulls gullet.
Pretty darn sad.
Not Houston. Paignton, Devon, in southwestern England. And why shouldn’t her “partner” hang out the wash? He wears clothes, doesn’t he?
Drop the chalupa!
