Had an owl grab my housecat that wasn’t quite fully grown but it didn’t get far before deciding to let go. It grabbed the cat by the hind end right over the tail, the cat was able to twist around and fight back I guess. cat was real cut up and sore for weeks, and got around the next two years or so checking the sky constantly and making sure she was always under some kind of cover. She gradually got more confident but it took a while.

“Ah, for a video of this snatch”.
I see what you did there. Very sneaky. I haven’t heard that term in a long time.

We’re not allowed to have clotheslines in my subdivision.

One could not, but two seagulls could carry a chihuahua on a line, secured under the dorsal guidance feathers

Are you suggesting that her partner wrung the neck of the nasty rat and disposed of the remains?

I call b.s. Or whatever the English equivalent is. Poppycock, I suppose. My Spidey senses tell me the partner done him in in the famous words of Miss Eliza Doolittle.

Or something. He may have just left the gate open and the thing got out and he just doesn’t want to admit it.

When I heard this story (urban myth?), it was an eagle snatching a teacup poodle at a gas station on the Alcan Hwy.

A seagull once snatched a slice of pizza I was eating while schlepping down the boardwalk on the Jersey shore. That said, people are notoriously bad at ID'ing birds. Are they sure it wasn't a pelican that took the pooch?

Are African Gulls migratory? In any event it would probably require two African Gulls to carry a four or five pound dog.

My wife & I actually saw a bald eagle pick up the neighbors Jack Russell dog and fly off with it outside Gladwin, Michigan about 10 years ago.
The neighbor was on the porch, the bird swooped down on the dog way out in the front yard, grabbed it with it’s claws, bit on it several times, & as Forrest Gump might say, “And just like that, it was gone.”

I saw an old Rockford Files show the other day. Jim helps out some dim-witted secretary. At the end of the episode they are out on the pier and she says “Oh look! A pelican!!”
It is a seagull.
