Notice that he’s back-pedeling on the issue...if he ever intended to even do anything about it. Trump has a history of goading enemies into making mistakes. He came out and sounded “reasonable” ... but the proof is in the pudding, as the old saying goes. No action thus far, and he’s tossing around excuses for not wanting to sign any such bill.
I agree with what is undoubtedly your position, which is that red flag laws are utterly unconstitutional, on several levels. They also tend to punish, without recourse, those who did nothing wrong, and can certainly be abused to do so rather easily by an “enterprising” prosecutor and police chief.
WRT Trump and gun control - though I didn’t, and don’t plan to, own a bump stock, I was and remain opposed to them being banned as Class 3 weapons, since they quite obviously aren’t, as even the batphuckers realized. Of course, the entire NFA and all regulations promulgated thereunder are, IMHO, void ab initio as being in gross violation of the 2nd Amendment.
If we had wanted your poor advice, you would be our president.

Which, to my mind, justifies raising a ruckus any time he starts to go in the wrong direction. He does seem to listen and learn. That puts him head and shoulders above most politicians.

We need another Supreme Court justice who has already upheld and defended our Second Amendment in court cases. Don’t accept the candidate who has no such record but will ride in on the abortion issue and a particular religion.
Leave it to the Shrubs to come out on the wrong side of really bad ideas. Thank God we dumped Jeb in the last election. He is the kind of guy, like Mittens, the more you get to know them the worse you like them.
I also agree with your thoughts on raising a ruckus. While I believe (and hope) that he will be reelected, I think that he is being very careful not to upset the base, or to motivate more people to simple stay at home. Giving the thumbs down on gun control isn’t going to piss off the Dems any more than they are, but allowing more of it without some very consequential positive results (ending part or all of the NFA, nationwide carry, etc.) most definitely WILL piss off a lot of his voters (definitely including you and I).
