Last night’s Miami-Florida game helped ring in what was the earliest start of the college football season ever.

Judging by the TV ratings, the early beginning might become tradition.

The contest, which kicked off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, drew a 4.1 overnight rating. That’s the best for a game on the Worldwide Leader in nearly three years.

I watched the game. Exciting but lot of sloppy play. It is good to see the game drew a big TV audience. That means there will be more good match ups for Week 0. The moment of the game was when the broadcast showed Ole Ball Coach reaction to a Felipe Franks pull you hair interception.

On the one hand, it was indeed a sloppy game. On the other hand, college football, the greatest sport in the history of mankind, starts another season.

Entertaining game. That poor freshman tackle for Miami got blown up all night long. Diaz shoulda moved a RB to chip, something, any help. Hate Miami though so what do I care lol.
My favorite moment was earlier in the day, Dez Howard quoting Chappelle Show. “Is Dez gonna have to choke a .....” Then he had to apologize for his “controversial” remarks hahahaha

Me too. I was surprised The U did not use more max protection schemes to help their overwhelmed tackles.

Despite the fact that the Gators didn’t play particularly well, this should be a boon for recruiting.

Very sloppy game but it n the end good defeated SCum so all is well.

Poorly called game by Dan Mullen. UF is loaded at WR and only threw downfield once.

When both teams have double-digit accepted fouls for over 100 yards each, time to go back to the training field. But it was an interesting and entertaining game.

So early I had no idea they were playing.

Had I known they may have had even higher ratings...

Pre-season games are used to sort the wheat from the chaff. Players are put in to see what they can do. It may be that they don’t do well. Doesn’t matter. Winning the game is not the object. Both teams are testing out various new players. Winnowing down the team and playing against real opponents gets the team ready for the actual ‘season’.

Actually, losing a pre-season game can often benefit the team more than winning.

I was at the game. I spent the first half on the sidelines, and it was LOUD down there. Had a great time!

It was. They added a bunch of temporary seating in the end zone. I think it was the largest crowd ever at the stadium. They did not sell any tickets outside of the UF and UM allotments, and they were divided evenly by sides. They had a very nice Fanfest before the game as well. It was a good day, and I am not a fan of either team!

I was there in the South end zone and it seemed like both teams were on the north end of the field all night (guess they would BOTH have to be). Almost unbearably hot and the TV timeouts were ridiculously long!

But everything turned out great! Go Gatah!!

That reminds me when they played Michigan here in Dallas a few years ago.

The TV Timeouts made it unbearable. Plus the fact we got our tails whupped that day.

Hilarious! HBC would have yanked Franks out of the game faster than Rosie Odonnel eats a donut!
