” See the link in post 16.”
I checked out the Golf R and in a VW site I found, the starting size of the engine is a two liter four cylinder engine, not 1.6 unless he installed a different engine.
I owned a 1958 VW Bug with a Porsche 356 engine in it, but it wasn’t stock for sure and the 1.6 litre, overhead valve 4 cylinder with 2 valves per cylinder was capable of 115 MPH. But getting there was an adventure as the bug didn’t want to handle well at those speeds due to over reacting and trying to get airborne.
But nothing in the article led me to think this was a souped car, just a family car in Germany. Hence my comment.

Oh great. Psychological counselling. From car thief to serial killer in record time.
The German version is a bit different from what America gets.
160 kph is only 99 mph.
That’s only at 3 grand on the tack, with another 3 grand to go.The Golf can go 112 mph all day long.
I’ve been driving since 1977 and not one VW of any model has ever passed me.

They are either so fast you haven`t seen them, or you are driving a good piece of US iron with a V8 engine like I do.( smile)
The GTI was once the most stolen vehicle in America for almost a decade in the 1990s.It was a go fast little bugger.
This site has always liked the Golf;
This is a good resource for car shoppers. If one is buying a car to make a statement and the car shows up highly rated on that site, it may not be the one they want.
