Immigration Officials Deport 120 Cubans To Havana — And That’s Just The Beginning

Cubans make up the largest number of migrants in Mexico trying to obtain asylum in the United States. But policy changes in the Obama and Trump administrations have made it harder for Cubans fleeing the island.

Immigration officials deported 120 Cubans on a single flight last week — one of the “largest” Cuba repatriation missions in recent history.

Last Friday’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement charter flight from New Orleans to Havana was one of many to come, two federal sources say, noting that officials have been quietly ramping up their efforts to detain and send undocumented Cubans back to the island.

The targeted deportation of Cuban nationals is just a small piece of the Trump administration’s plan to empty out the country of undocumented immigrants, though the successful removals are the fruit of an agreement signed by both the U.S. and Cuban governments under former President Barack Obama in his last days in office.

“The government is trying to deport as many people as they can regardless of their legal claims,” said Randy McGrorty, a longtime Miami immigration lawyer who serves as executive director of Catholic Legal Services, which provides free representation for low-income immigrants.

McGrorty represents a Cuban national who was recently detained at the southern border. He was supposed to be on the ICE flight to Havana but was taken off at the last minute after a paperwork glitch. “South Florida should be up in arms,” he said.

It’s still unclear whether the people on the Havana flight consisted of recent arrivals, or people who have illegally remained in the country. However, ICE sources say the majority passed so-called “credible-fear interviews” that they faced persecution if returned, but were not represented by attorneys. MORE AT LINK

Removals need to be ramped up to thousands a day, every day.

Exactly. If Cubans fleeing communism don’t have a case for asylum, then who does?

Something odd about this ... and to put all my cards on the table, I did a lot of my growing up in Miami, where I had a lot of Cuban-American friends.

I don’t know how things are today but in my high school and college years (class of 1978 U of Miami), the friction level between Anglos and Cubanos was pretty low. A few bad apples, but for the most part the Cubanos were happy to be safe in the USA.

What kind of Cubans? I remember the Mariel boat lift. Castro flushed his toilet on that one. 3 going back is not exactly tit for tat.

Prohibit illegals from using anchor babies to stay and draw welfare, ramp up E-verify, and heavily fine anyone who hires an illegal alien. If they can’t get work or free money, they’ll deport themselves.

Cubans are the only illegals the left wants deported because they make communism look bad. "Please please go back, show the world you live in Utopia!"

And also turned Florida red for a bunch of close presidential elections. A LOT were not criminals.

and this...

....the successful removals are the fruit of an agreement signed by both the U.S. and Cuban governments under former President Barack Obama in his last days in office....

Let’s be frank. That’s because obama didn’t give a #### if they got tortured or killed when he went back.

Cubans are the last on my list of who needs to be sent back.

And I don’t give a #### who disagrees.

Sending people back to face communist “rule of law” is not a GOOD thing.

Not everyone can claim asylum from there, but I’d rather from there than africa or many central and south american countries.

A lot of American citizens were murdered because of that which of course the media ignored and still ignores. Jimmy Carter, another liberal who put foreign invaders over the lives of the US citizen.

Here's one victim I remember....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mia_Zapata

In 2003, Florida fisherman Jesus Mezquia, who had come from Cuba in 1980 in the Mariel boatlift, was arrested in connection with Zapata's murder. DNA evidence was used to tie him to the murder and charges were brought against him.

How true. The Dems don’t care about Cubans, probably because they tend to vote GOP.

Interesting since the Cubans have always been allowed entry regardless. They also tend to vote Republican since they appreciate the depravity of communism. So it is interesting that is the Cubans they are sending back. Sigh.

If I were Trump I personally would save this for a second term.

Florida is once again going to be a dogfight and he can’t afford to antagonize the Cuban community there. IMHO we escaped an Al Gore presidency by the skin of our teeth because Clinton chose to do the Elian Gonzalez thing.
