Smug Stupid, Leftist Luddites in spandex are dodging about at 40mph, in traffic, ignoring all traffic laws, and getting converted into strawberry jam. Seems like natural selection, at work.
Not all of us that ride are smug, stupid, leftist luddites in spandex. Those of us that don’t fall into your finger pointing name calling category usually have more sense than to ride in heavy traffic. I’m 64, I ride, I don’t ride in traffic, and I don’t wear spandex.
a guy at my church, brother-in-law, got run over about a week before Christmas. He was in intensive care for a month before he eventually passed. HIs Brother-in-Law was a conservative and Christian.
Anyway, I do see what you see, I see a lot of cyclists running stop signs and riding side by side, making it difficult to go around them. A town near me, had a bike race in May, and I saw one only wearing underwear and bike shoes. It was literal underwear.
Here, they get on the back country roads. Both the roads into town are in places too narrow for a center stripe. They’re hilly with sharp turns. You can’t see an oncoming vehicle until you’re right on them. Suicidal bicyclists get on them and struggle and wobble up the hills causing vehicles to slam on their breaks and swerve into oncoming traffic. I’ve said for years they shouldn’t be allowed on those roads. It’s bleepin’ dangerous. Of course, if there were to be a death, the law would dictate it being the driver’s fault when it clearly shouldn’t be.
Yes but they want to look fit for the Pride Parade.
This thread is very depressing. I ride a lot - with folks that average around 65yo. The vast majority of my biking associates, and me, are conservative Republicans. Yes, we wear spandex - elsewhere in this thread others explain why - function. And no, we don’t ignore traffic laws - at least not any more than all the drivers I see rolling stop signs and right turns on red, and speeding. Base assertions (2) - first, very very little road money is spent on biking and pedestrian paths or lanes. Assertion 2 - Drivers (including those commenting here) don’t recognize the difference in vulnerability between bicyclists and the SUV they are driving - and their special responsibility to watch out, much like one would watch out for a child in a crosswalk. And, I’m tired of hearing about bicyclists not having licenses or paying taxes - every one I know owns a car, has a license, and pays taxes (4 cars between the two of us, so plenty of taxes/insurance).
I cycle and am not a liberal. Its tons of fun. Ive lost 27 lbs doing it.
Fortunately I live in Fort Worth and there trails all along the river for 60 miles to ride on.
