I was talking to an electrical engineer with a government agency who was involved with SETI for a while. He said that if a planet took the equivalent of all the energy on earth and directed it into a beam pointed directly at us, and we had directed all of our resources at building a sensor directly pointed at that planet, we still wouldn’t pick up anything.

We’re picking these FRBs up.

We’re picking these FRBs up.

Which means they're almost certainly from some cosmological origin. The amount of energy required to make one of the microsecond bursts we're detecting, at the distance we're detecting it from, is equivalent to 80 years of the sun's energy. To claim that an alien intelligence is harnessing that kind of power is absurd.
