I’m a smith and have worked on a lot of guns but to my knowledge that “one little piece” he is talking about is pure Bull Shit fantasy.

The truth, proven factual truth, is that the 5.56 NATO round that most AR’s fire are not considered significantly deadly to be allowed for hunting deer sized animals in most states.
By rifle standards it is a pretty anemic cartridge.
Any and all of my non-varmint hunting rifles are much more powerful than the 5.56 NATO round.
So if he is really worried about something I would use for self defense in my home killing my neighbors why would he only confiscate rifles that shoot the less powerful round?
