People Are Fleeing New York At An Alarming Rate
New York Post ^ | April 1, 2017 | Aaron Short

Posted on 09/30/2019 12:31:36 AM PDT by Windflier

More people are leaving the New York region than any other major metropolitan area in the country.

More than 1 million people moved out of the New York area to other parts of the country since 2010, a rate of 4.4 percent — the highest negative net migration rate among the nation’s large population centers, US Census records show.

The number of people leaving the region — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island — in one year swelled from 187,034 in 2015 to 223,423 in 2016, while the number of international immigrants settling in the tristate area dwindled from 181,551 to 160,324 over the same period, records show.

The nation’s economy is improving, there are more jobs in cheaper places to live, and retirees are choosing to move to warmer climates, experts say.

“The historical trend is that out-migration grows when the economy is getting better,” said Empire Center for Public Policy research director E.J. McMahon.

“As the economy gets better, there are more jobs outside the region and by the same token . . . more people to buy your house if you’re a baby boomer looking to move to Boca Raton or Myrtle Beach.”

The New York metro area remains the most populous in the country with 23.7 million residents.

Americans have been increasingly relocating from the eastern US and the Rust Belt to cities in Florida, Texas and the Northwest.

Yeah, the article is dated, but the exodus continues.

New York is losing its middle class, and now even some of its more affluent residents.

I’m gone as soon as I decide on a place in PA.

I like the cool weather and autumn a lot so south isn’t an option.

But NY has lost its collective mind

South/central western PA is paradise.

If you like mountains, try McConnellsburg.

Small town surrounded by mountains.

Home to the paternal side of my hillbilly kin and seriously conservative.

:)

Stupid writing, what is a Rust Belt?

It's a well known phrase. Surprised you're unfamiliar with it.

Rust Belt: "Rust Belt" is a derogatory term for an informal region of the United States that experienced industrial decline starting around 1980. It is made up mostly of places in the Midwest and Great Lakes, though definitions vary.

My cousin spent his entire working life on the NYPD. Growing up, the city was the best place in the world. NEVER thought he’d leave, not in a million years... Left the day after he retired, lol. Moved to NC.

True, but I'd hazard to say that the majority of those fleeing blue states, are frustrated conservatives. Exactly the kind of neighbors you (and I) want.

New York is the perfect example of a socialist state and what happens eventually in a socialist country.

It's called the "rust belt" because of its dependence on the steel industry and the decay that resulted from its decline and impacts on downline manufacturing.

Yeah, I’d move out if I lived there.

1) It’s a Sanctuary City, Rapists and Murderers are being released there to prey on the public once more. High crime rates are taking their toll.

2) High Taxes - City and State is about 9% for an average income. 12.6% “Millionaire”. With the Tax Cut, state income taxes were capped at 10,000. This exposed the high taxation, hence the desire to escape them..

3) War on Business. Amazon’s proposed relocation to the area was vilified by the regions Democratic Politicians. With a climate change agenda looming. Businesses are moving out of the New York city area to more favorable areas. Can you blame them?

4) Coddling Terrorists - New York area Democrats have proposed trying terrorists from Gitmo there. Along with the Sanctuary city status, the chance of Terrorists being acquitted and released there is very real. Not only this but it attracts domestic ones like Antifa as well. Being beat up or blown up; it’s your choice.

5) Gender pronoun enforcement is coming soon. Do you want to raise your kids there is a very real question. Boys posing as girls can rape them in the schools. Boys posing as girls beat them in sports, If I were a mother in the New York area, I WOULD FLEE WITH MY CHILDREN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

6) Health care for Illegals, The area is to become a Magnet for sick illegals from all over the world. Think Drug Resistant TB and other strange diseases. And say goodbye to your jobs as Business pay less for them than for You!

7) War on Christianity, particularly on the Catholic Church. War on Catholic Hospitals, Schools and Adoption agencies abound. Holy Matrimony is increasingly shunned there and it’s only going to get worse.

8) The future there looks bleak. It is following San Francisco down a stinky path.

Try Northern Michigan, north of Midland. Lots of white people with guns.

Won’t happen there.

Seriously insulated by terrain, no big towns nearby, minimal shopping and lousy with crotchety hillbillies.

Kids are polite and well mannered.

Not an attractive place for freaks.
