Heard an Al Kooper interview recounting where he was supposed to play guitar for Dylan, and realized [name forgotten] was a better guitarist, so he decided to play unplanned keyboards, organ maybe.
The producer heard the practice, and nixed the keyboards, but Dylan liked it, so Kooper stayed.
