Last I heard, the average sentence for murder was 7 years. that was 20 years ago that I heard that, and mandatory sentence may be longer now, but that was the average for murder 20 years ago. 7 years.

For this type of murder, I'd guess it is. It wasn't a premeditated act. It was an act of extreme negligence, which is often charges as manslaughter.

Years ago, I read an article saying that in Washington, DC, the average sentence for armed robbery was 5.5 years and the average for murder was 7.5 years.

Any wonder that thugs knocking off a 7-11 so often shoot the only witness?
