Still have some Buttercrunch lettuce growing, It's awesome in both taste and texture.
Soooooo....decided to grow it hydroponically this winter (NYS Zone 6).
Using Mason Jars per a great video I found. Also, considering Spinach.

All the rain - 5 inches last week - caused all the tomatoes to split. Still gonna freeze them, just cut around the ugly stuff. Everything else is done in our veggie garden. We didn’t go in for squashes because we don’t have much space.
This week we will be removing plants from the veggie garden and the summer flowers from around the house. Supposed to be in the 60s and sunny most of the week, so perfect time to do that.
I will also be planting some daffodil bulbs. Because there will be no rain this week, I will heavily sprinkle cayenne over the planting sites to discourage squirrels. Anyone have better squirrel defying advice?

Went to our local botanic garden today as they were having their annual bonsai show but I likes all their mums decorations more. Took LOTS more pictures than this.

Sorry, Gang! I've been down with a cold and two days of never-ending doctor appointments for my Dad. He starts radiation in two weeks for his (returned) salivary gland cancer. He had a major operation in June to get most of it, but they didn't want to damage his facial nerve too much, so had to leave some of it behind. It is a VERY aggressive cancer. :( This, or any other number of ailments could be the final thing that gets him, so place your bets! (We have a weird sense of humor in my family.)
Today I plan on making All-Day Apple Butter in my crock pot, and Beau brought me four Sugar Pie Pumpkins (of about 30 in the lower garden!) to cook down. Pumpkin Butter is going to be in the offing soon, too. And pie. And Pumpkin Risotto and a Sage & Pumpkin Pastas Sauce.
