Nope. He doesn’t give us stuff (and we don’t ask). However, we spent a week on his six suite yacht in Alaska and he flew us down to Cabo in his Cessna citation (10 passenger jet). I even got to sit in the copilot’s seat.
He took us halibut fishing on his “crab boat” and we pulled up several gallons of tiger shrimp in a few spots. He even flew us via bush plane to the boat (anchored in one of the coves near Juneau).
But when we went to restaurants in Cabo, we all paid for our own meals.
He and my sister are strong Christians. They share their stuff like crazy. In fact, it can be quite stressful using your boat almost like a vacation cruise for friends. But they don’t buy stuff for any of us. In fact, at Christmas, I noticed once that one of his sons got a shirt for Christmas.
All that being said, his 10 year old daughter was very good at flying his STOL plane.
People like you and me tend to look at them the way people living in cardboard boxes in Africa may look at us, I think.
It’s all relative, once you have food in your mouth, a shirt on your back and a roof over your head.
I have a fake facebook account where I graduated from high school from a large New Jersey high school. I accept every friend request, but never post. I have many hundreds of friends, almost all of them in africa. Their personal posts are fascinating. Their pictures of things they are proud of are revealing of the culture there. They don’t have what we have. their cars are a lot junkier, but they still try to fix them up and are proud of them.
I have to put their comments in google translate. Most of them are in Swahili.
And yes, the comments are interesting too.
Fact is, their culture is very different then ours, as is their language. Yet, they are very similar in a LOT of ways, from a purely human perspective.
I think the same is true with the rich and super rich - with the exception of some of those that were simply given their wealth. That is never good for a person.
Mine was suspended even tho I've never used it other than to make comments on various news articles........
Thats pretty cool actually and with money being such a complication in many families. Your family seems to do it right. Moments together due to opportunity is priceless.
