After taking Isaac from the zoo, Kasbar put him in a plastic drawer without ventilation and then abandoned him in front of a hotel in Newport Beach hotel with two notes that said "Lemur (with tracker)" and "This belongs to the Santa Ana Zoo it was taken last night please bring it to police."

Isaac was returned unharmed to the zoo, according to the release.

Several other animals escaped after their enclosure was opened by Kasbar but they were all recovered, the release said.

In addition to his prison sentence, Kasbar was sentenced to pay restitution of $8,486 to the zoo.

And here in Montgomery County Texas, we keep letting offenders off with $100 bonds and slaps on the wrist for violent attacks and repeated thefts and assaults.

It appears that Aquinas Kasbar lives in the left quadrant of the bell curve.

When I was 20, a friend and I “borrowed” a full-grown, 6’ alligator from a small zoo in a northern state - no, we were not sober - with a grand prank planned that didn’t go as planned, tried another prank, that too didn’t work. Having not seen “Swamp People”, we knew nothing of how to handle alligators, and it’s a miracle we were not bitten. Carried gator in trunk of my ‘51 Ford Crestliner.

Let the gator go in a pone in heavy woods. End of story, right?

Nope. A creek ran from the pond to the largest lake in the state, gator took it to the lake, and lake dwellers freaked out seeing it in a state with no alligators, and they called for our hanging.

Ended up in newspaper headlines and on Walter Cronkite CBS and Huntley-Brinkley NBC evening news, a unique name was given us that sticks with me today.

We faced $6,000 in fines and 6 years in jail for 3 misdemeanors. After a long tongue-lashing by the judge I’m thinking we will get the electric chair.

He fined us each $35.

My first taste of the mercy of God........

I think federal prison is a little heavy handed. A better sentence for him would have him clean the cages for a few weeks.

Could have at least used a Karl Farbman

“a unique name was given us that sticks with me today”

Inquiring minds would like to know?

Now if I posted the name, everyone would do a Google search and find out more about me than I want known. I still have the old newspaper articles, and could post them.......

Rather remain in the shadows, thank you.

Yeah, it’s a great story, all true. But only can be appreciated when all the other details of the story are told........

Don't monkey around with strepsirrhine primates!

His prison sentence is for three months. It would have been longer but the lemur refused to press charges.

Took helicopters, skin-divers, and others to catch the alligator as the lake is huge.........

From newspaper articles: little girl - “Daddy! I just saw an alligator near our dock!” “Honey, couldn’t have been an alligator - there are none in our state - they cannot live this far north....”

2 fishermen in boat out in lake - “Joe! I just saw an alligator!” “Pete - no way Jose’ - ain’t no alligators in this state. How many beers have you had?”
