I just might have an idea. I taught skeet for two years at the University of Southern Mississippi, am a certified instructor by both the NRA and State of Mississippi.

You would have to be really stupid to try anything in an auto that it is not intended to shoot.

Skeet. Exactly the intended application of a semi-auto shotgun I cited. (Well, I said trap...)

I also use semi-auto shotguns for waterfowl hunting.

But not for home defense.

The school paid for my ammo so I bought AA skeet and trap loads while experimenting using all my old odds and ends. I learned a few things plus have a whole bunch of Winchester AA shells in storage.

A few surprises. Although I used a Beretta skeet model, I also would try out others. I found out that there were a lot of guns which surprisingly worked fine for skeet.

An old Spanish side by side double was pure poison on those clay birds. The Benelli M1 Super 90 was also good but the recoil probably permanently injured my shoulder.

You are right about one thing. It doesn’t have to be a 12 gauge.
