Pat Sajak is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery for a blocked intestine ... opening the door for Vanna White to host "Wheel of Fortune."
Production sources tell TMZ ... Pat is going to be sidelined for two weeks, during which Vanna will fill his shoes on the hosting front.
"Wheel of Fortune" is currently shooting Disney Week at its Los Angeles studio ... and our production sources tell us the person turning the letters will have mouse ears ... in case you can't figure it out, we're talking Mickey Mouse!!!
The show announced it canceled its Thursday taping because Pat went under the knife, and taping resumed Friday with Vanna stepping in as host. Sajak is said to be resting comfortably and looking forward to getting back on the job.
Pat's been the host of "Wheel of Fortune" -- the longest-running syndicated game show in the country -- since 1982, and Vanna's been turning the letters since then as well.
'Wheel' and "Jeopardy" are owned by the same company and are 2 of the most successful shows in TV syndication. Pat's now laid up, and Alex Trebek is battling pancreatic cancer and is undergoing a second round of chemo, though he has not missed a show.
Get well soon, Pat!!! And, Alex.
He did the introductory video that you watch when you first arrive at George Washington’s Mount Vernon and I enjoyed it so. Hope he recovers soon.
Pat Sajak is one of the really good guys.
He is one of the sharpest people I have ever seen.
My Mother used to love that show and was good at it.

Just as a goof when Pat gets back they should do a show with him and Vanna swapping roles, lol.
Saw Vanna in some movie segment as some goddess?? Worst actress I ever saw.
I wish Pat a speedy recovery, but I am surprised they chose not to have another host step in and fill that spot.
Maybe that’s how the most loyal viewers want it.
I didn’t know the show was still on the air.
I expected to be reading about Alex Trebek,
She’s not an actress.
But an visual accessory,
And Darn good at that...
Who is turning the letters?
Had a friend who suffered the same malady. She was on a plane when suddenly she started vomiting and had to be carried out in a wheelchair to a hospital. There she had emergency surgery and a foot of her intestines was removed. The problem was she was a bartender and only ate bar food, junk that entailed nothing fresh, no fiber and no veggies. She made it ok but learned a hard lesson.
Well, Vanna as host ain’t a bad idea.
I think she’s earned it, and the viewers will probably get a kick out of it.

Good. She was always second banana, it’s her time. She deserves it.
